iOS and Android apps that connect people who need tasks done with people ready to do them.
The client wanted a mobile marketplace for everyday jobs: someone needs help with an errand or a chore, and someone nearby has the time and skills to do it. A marketplace like this only works when both sides trust it and can act from their phones. The client needed iOS and Android apps that made posting a task quick, finding work simple and communication between strangers straightforward.
Hexagon delivered iOS and Android apps with a shared backend for a two-sided task marketplace. People needing help describe a task, set the location and timing, then review offers from those interested. Workers browse open tasks, offer to take them and update progress. Messaging, notifications and ratings keep both sides informed before and after a job. Administrators get tools to manage accounts, tasks and reported problems.
A two-sided marketplace has to win over both sides, and it has to do so on a phone.
People tend to reach for an app in the moment, when a job comes to mind. If the posting form takes too long or asks too much, they give up and ask a neighbor.
We built a short guided posting flow covering what, where and when, with optional photos for anything hard to describe.
Someone looking for work doesn't want to scroll through tasks across town or outside their abilities. If the feed feels irrelevant, they stop checking the app and the marketplace goes quiet.
We gave workers a task feed they can filter by category and location, with alerts when something suitable gets posted.
A person inviting someone to their home, or trusting them with an errand, wants to know who they're dealing with. Workers want to know the request is genuine too.
We added profiles and two-way ratings, so each side can look at the other's history before agreeing to a task.
Customers on iPhones and on Android phones share one marketplace. If one app shows a different status or lags behind, offers and messages get missed and people lose confidence.
We ran both apps from one backend and one API, so tasks, offers, messages and status all match on either device.
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| People who need tasks done | |
| 1. Guided Task Posting | A few short steps capture the job, category, location and timing, so posting doesn't feel like filling out a form. |
| 2. Task Photos | A picture of the sofa or the overgrown yard answers questions that would otherwise take several messages. |
| 3. Offers Inbox | Interested workers appear in one place for the poster to compare. |
| 4. Worker Profiles | Posters can check a worker's description, ratings and past reviews before choosing. |
| 5. Task Assignment | A poster selects a worker with one action, which closes the task to other offers. |
| 6. Task Status | The poster can see whether the job is assigned, under way or finished, without asking. |
| 7. Task History | Earlier tasks are saved, which makes it easy to find a good worker again. |
| People doing tasks | |
| 8. Task Feed | Open jobs appear in a list that can be filtered by category and area. |
| 9. Location View | Workers can see roughly where a job is before offering, which helps them avoid long trips for small jobs. |
| 10. Make an Offer | A worker can express interest with a short note saying why they are a good fit. |
| 11. Worker Profile Setup | Workers describe their skills and availability, giving posters a reason to choose them. |
| 12. New Task Alerts | Push notifications let workers respond quickly to a suitable task, often before others see it. |
| 13. Progress Updates | Workers mark a job as started and completed, which keeps the poster informed. |
| Both sides | |
| 14. Sign-Up and Profiles | Users create an account on their phone, and the same account works for posting or doing tasks. |
| 15. In-App Messaging | Users discuss details inside the app, so nobody needs to share a personal phone number early on. |
| 16. Push Notifications | Offers, messages and status changes reach people when they happen. |
| 17. Two-Way Ratings | After a task, each person rates the other, which rewards reliability on both sides of the marketplace. |
| Marketplace administrators | |
| 18. User Management | Staff can review accounts and suspend anyone who breaks the rules. |
| 19. Task Moderation | Staff can review and remove postings that break marketplace rules, which keeps the feed trustworthy. |
| 20. Reports and Disputes | Users can flag a problem, and staff can see the task and message context behind it. |
| 21. Category Management | Staff can add or adjust task categories without an app update. |
Each layer has one job.
The client received a task marketplace for both major mobile platforms, with one backend behind them. Posters, workers and administrators each have tools built for their part of the exchange.
| Area | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Getting help | Asking around or posting on general boards | Post a task to a dedicated marketplace from a phone |
| Finding work | Searching many places for small jobs | A filterable feed plus alerts for new tasks |
| Choosing someone | Little to go on about a stranger | Profiles, ratings and reviews on both sides |
| Staying in touch | Personal numbers swapped early | In-app messages and status notifications |
Good software follows a process. Here are the six stages, and what happens in each one.
Goal: Define the product vision, target audience and core business requirements.
Key activitiesGoal: Create an intuitive user experience and visual interface.
Key activitiesGoal: Build the functional application using agile sprints.
Key activitiesGoal: Harden the application against vulnerabilities and boost performance.
Key activitiesGoal: Deploy to a controlled group of real users to catch edge-case bugs and gather feedback.
Key activitiesGoal: Roll the software out to the general public.
Key activitiesApps for both platforms let users join on the phone they already own.
Two-way ratings build a track record for everyone.
Push alerts put new tasks and offers in front of people promptly.
Admin tools handle moderation and disputes without developer help.
Task marketplaces look simple from the outside. The difficulty sits in the details: fast posting, relevant feeds, messages between strangers and a record of who can be relied on. Hexagon built iOS and Android apps and the shared backend that gives both sides of the client's marketplace the same picture. If you are planning a local services marketplace, or any app that matches people with work, we would be happy to talk about what to build first.
